  • New Beginnings
    (by Clement McGrath, February 2009)
At this time of the year we often hear comments like, "We'll see what the new year brings." or "Let's hope it is better than last year." Such statements refer to the sense of having a new beginning with the New Year, a sense that we can start all over and do things differently, or get another chance. We also have the tradition of making a New Year resolution as we determine to change a habit, give up an addiction, or try something new.

  • Succeeding With Clear Intent
    (by Clement McGrath, February 2009)
Success means different things to us all. But so very often it is measured largely in material and worldly terms, and fails to take account of what aspects of our humanity may have been sacrificed in attaining that success. • Are You a Dreamer?
    (by Clem McGrath, December 2008)
When we read about human history we find it presented from a variety of perspectives. We hear about humans as explorers, politicians, warriors, inventors, artists, and so on, but we seldom hear about humans as dreamers. Yet so many of the significant advances of civilisation have been inspired by individuals who had a dream. They are the ones who lift their heads up high to perceive the heights of dignity, inspiration and creative fulfilment that truly define what it means to be a human being.

  • Giving Birth to Freedom
    (by Clem McGrath, October 2008)
As humans we are an uneasy mixture of light and dark. Sometimes we swing between each of them and at other times we suppress one and attach to the other. At other times we try and reconcile the two by following a regime or set of rules. And a lot of the time we deny that the dark side even exists within us. This is the trap that imprisons those who are driven by an ideology and see the darkness everywhere except within themselves.
